The Black Knights

Written By Joshua Bruce

The Logline

When a group of black friends uncover a deadly organ-harvesting conspiracy during their hunting trip, they must fight for survival to escape the ruthless racist hunters before becoming their next victims.

"In the shadows of the south, they hunt more than just animals"

Feature Film Concept

A gritty socially conscious horror film

The Black Knights explores the horrifying reality of cultural appropriation through the lens of organ harvesting, symbolizing how Black culture is commodified and exploited without regard for its origins.

Just as organs are essential to life, cultural heritage and identity are vital to the soul of a community. By stripping individuals of their essence, the Black Knights represent the dehumanization and erasure caused by appropriation. This visceral metaphor highlights the ongoing fight to preserve identity and reclaim power in the face of exploitation.

Inspired by the social horror of Get Out and the relentless tension of Deliverance, The Black Knights is a visceral exploration of cultural exploitation and survival.

It challenges viewers to confront the dehumanizing impact of appropriation while celebrating the resilience needed to reclaim identity and humanity.

The Story Synopsis

The Black Knights is a harrowing journey into the depths of fear and survival. Seeking solace and escape from their personal struggles, a group of friends embarks on a hunting trip to the rural South. Deep in an isolated wilderness, they hope for peace but instead encounter unease—strange locals, ominous symbols, and the unsettling sense of something lurking just beyond the trees.

What begins as a carefree adventure quickly takes a chilling turn when the group uncovers a dark, hidden truth that shatters their reality. Confronted by an unrelenting force known as the Flesh Collectors, their lives—and everything they thought they understood about the world—are thrown into jeopardy.

As tensions escalate and buried secrets unravel, the friends are forced to face their deepest fears and darkest regrets. Trapped, hunted, and outnumbered, their bonds are tested in a desperate fight for survival.

Will they escape the nightmare, or will they succumb to the horrors of The Black Knights?

Proposed Film Cast

Kelvin Harrison Jr.

is an African American actor known for his dynamic range and intense, nuanced performances in dramatic and thriller genres. He received critical acclaim for his roles in Waves and Luce, Harrison’s breakout role in It Comes at Night also showcased his ability to bring depth to horror, making him one of Hollywood’s most promising young actors with a unique talent for portraying complex, layered characters.

The Main Protagonist

Jordan King is a man haunted by the guilt of his sister’s untimely death—a tragedy he holds himself accountable for, as he was present when she was murdered. This devastating loss has profoundly reshaped his worldview, leaving him introspective and often isolated as he struggles with conflicting feelings of duty and self-doubt.

A natural protector, Jordan is driven by an instinct to shield others from harm, yet this instinct is hindered by a paralyzing fear of failure lurking beneath the surface.

Despite his outward courage and resilience, Jordan’s internal battle is deeply personal. He is caught between the shadows of his traumatic past and a desperate yearning to move forward with purpose. His journey is one of redemption, as he learns to confront his darkest fears and navigate the vulnerabilities that threaten to hold him back.

Through his trials, Jordan discovers that true strength lies not in avoiding failure, but in facing it head-on. By embracing his imperfections, he begins to reclaim his sense of worth and forge a path toward self-forgiveness and healing.

Jordan’s arc is both a fight against external threats and a deeply intimate exploration of redemption. In his struggle, he becomes a symbol of resilience and transformation, inspiring those around him to confront their own fears and choose courage over comfort.

The Vision of The Black Knights

Style & Tone

The Black Knights will immerse viewers in a visceral, grounded horror experience. The tone is bleak, tense, and unrelenting, capturing the raw fear of isolation and the horror of human exploitation. With a focus on psychological tension and explosive moments of terror, the film will explore themes of survival, morality, and systemic violence in a way that feels both timeless and timely.

Visual Influence

The film will employ naturalistic lighting and muted, earthy tones to emphasize the rural setting. Scenes will feature stark contrasts between wide, isolating shots of the wilderness and claustrophobic, shadowy interiors to evoke a sense of both entrapment and vulnerability.

  • Negative Space: Drawing inspiration from Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, the use of negative space will create a constant sense of being watched.

  • Color Palette: A desaturated palette with deep greens, browns, and muted reds will evoke the haunting beauty and oppressive danger of the rural South.

  • Camera Work: Slow pans, lingering wide shots, and creeping handheld movements will build suspense and highlight the characters' vulnerability in a hostile environment.

The Black Knights will deliver a cinematic experience that combines visceral horror with thought-provoking themes, ensuring it lingers with audiences long after the credits roll.

Market Potential

The Black Knights is tailored for fans of socially conscious and atmospheric horror films. The film will appeal to:

  • Core Demographic: Adults aged 18–34, who dominate the horror market and are drawn to films with strong narratives and psychological depth.

  • Secondary Audience: Fans of elevated horror, including films that blend genre elements with social commentary, such as Get Out and Midsommar.

Relevant Market Trends

  • Horror’s Box Office Dominance: Horror films consistently overperform at the box office, driven by loyal audiences and strong word-of-mouth marketing. Recent successes like Smile and Barbarian achieved high returns on modest budgets, highlighting the genre’s reliability.

  • Socially Relevant Storytelling: Films like Get Out and Us have proven the demand for horror that delivers scares while addressing societal issues.

  • Streaming Platforms: The rise of platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime has increased the appetite for horror films, with many titles finding massive success in the digital space.

  • Cult and Survival Horror: Recent hits like The Ritual and Wrong Turn (2021) demonstrate the enduring popularity of survival stories set in isolated, rural environments.

Horror is experiencing a renaissance, with audiences seeking fresh and innovative takes on the genre. The Black Knightsaligns perfectly with this trend, offering a gripping, socially conscious narrative that combines visceral scares with meaningful themes. Its blend of survival horror and cultural relevance ensures it will resonate with today’s horror enthusiasts.

Distribution Strategy

SALES AGENT & DISTRIBUTOR SELECTION

First, we plan to secure theatrical screenings across the U.S., along with targeted entries into genre-specific film festivals (horror). These efforts will be supported by interviews, articles, videos, and other promotional activities to build accolades, reviews, and industry recognition.

Second, we aim to partner with a reputable distribution company before production begins to secure revenue through licensing deals in North America and international markets, including DVD, streaming, cable, and other platforms.

Financier Incentives

Wretched Egg Productions has hired Moving Pictures Media Group, a film development company, to prepare The Black Knights for financing through an SBA secured loan.

By working with Moving Pictures Media Group, we aim to secure a distribution deal before principal photography begins. This distribution deal will be used as collateral to fully finance the movie through an SBA loan.

The SBA process is expected to take 6–12 months. Once the project is fully funded by the SBA, investors will be paid their initial investment plus 20% from the budget's line items. Investors won’t have to wait for the movie to generate revenue to recoup their investment and interest.
